Dorf Tirol – the sunny paradise on the South side of the Alps!

Welcome to Dorf Tirol – the cradle of the province Tyrol. Nowadays South Tyrol is the most northern region of Italy and an important Alpine crossing point, therefore Dorf Tirol is easily reachable. The village is romantically situated - above the well-known health resort Meran - amongst green vineyards and apple trees. Whatever you do – strolling along promenades with Mediterranean flair, going on a shopping expedition or enjoying the mixture of Italian and Tyrolean cuisine – the sun will always shine for you. Here – on the south side of the Alps - the sun shines on average 300 days per year!

Dorf Tirol is famous for its ancestral castle of Tyrol.

For several centuries this castle was the residence of the Lords of Tyrol. Today the castle is used as provincial museum of history and culture. It provides an overall view about the early settlers (7 BC) in this alpine region up to the settlements and the live during the Middle Ages.

In the bird care centre, beside the castle - in a wonderful landscaped setting and with integrated educational path routes - visitors can learn about the fascinating life of birds of prey. The main aim of the centre is to nurse the helpless and injured birds until they are again healthy, and then introduce them back into the wild. If this is not possible the centre gives the animals a new home.

St. Peters Parish Church, Brunnenburg Castle, Burglehen Park, the Botanical Garden, the “Touriseum” … a lot of sights and secrets are worth to be discovered! But the most important “sight” is our nature: Snow covered mountains, crystal-clear lakes, meadows full of blooming flowers and a quick chamois passing by …


Hiking & walking in Dorf Tirol

Dorf Tirol is characterized by an extraordinary beautiful landscape – from the valley to the sunny slopes of the Küchelberg hill at 600 m of altitude and further on to the Spronser lakes situated at 2,500 m. The nearby Nature Park Texelgruppe – the biggest of all South Tyrolean Nature parks – exhibits one of the most beautiful landscapes of the region.

Dorf Tirol is the perfect location for mountain excursions and hiking tours: 70 km of marked hiking trails invite you to explore the unspoiled nature, the beautiful orchards and vineyards, green alpine meadows, romantic mountain huts, clear lakes and snow-covered mountains.

Enjoy a stroll along the “Waale”. "Waale" are ancient irrigation channels, formerly used to water the alpine meadows and the fruit orchards, with paths running alongside them to provide access for maintenance purposes. Nowadays these paths, or “Waalwege” provide great opportunities for walking.
